Sensit Yoga Somatics Immersion 1, 2 and 3

Sensit Yoga Somatics Immersions 1,2 and 3

Virtual LIVE online Workshops

lead to

Sensit Yoga™ Teaching Fundamentals – diploma

(prerequisite: existing 200hr diploma)

Hours also count towards:

►Sensit Yoga 300hr Advances Studies and

►Yoga Alliance International 300hr Advanced Yoga Studies

Register

The essence of the Sensit Yoga teaching methodology is engaging students in an embodied self-inquiry and self-exploration.
Students learn to work with felt experiences and sensations. They begin to trust the support they discover in their own body, and start to feel inspired and empowered by the guidance from within.
The guidance that the teacher offers is the key in this process. It facilitates the students' interoceptive journey, and helps them navigate in this new space in a way that can lift the curtains of conditioning, change old habits, and open the door to new landscapes.
Immersions offer an existing yoga teacher comprehensive material that is very well balanced between practical experience and methodology of teaching, so that each teacher can expand their embodiment practice, and at the same time acquire the necessary skills to lead their students in the path of Sensit Yoga.

Embodied anatomy explorations are inspired by Body-Mind Centering

The Nervous System | Restorative Yoga, Somatics and Meditation

Restorative Yoga, Somatic Rolling and Embodied Meditation are 3 practices that have a direct impact on the tone of our autonomic nervous system. They help calm the sympathetic and activate the parasympathetic pathways, which we may experience as relaxation, quiet presence, or inner-ease. In the longer run, regular work with our nervous system leads to better management of it's changing states, quicker recognition of our patterns and triggers, and a wider variety of choices in how we respond to the external stimulation.

About restorative yoga:

Restorative yoga uses gravity and other forms of support (walls, cushions, chairs blocks) to create gentle passive openings in the tissues and achieve relaxation in the entire neuro-muscular system.
Maintaining restorative postures releases, hydrates and revitalizes fascia. It allows those areas of the body that tend to accumulate stress, to gradually soften the resistance and surrender to gravity. This process calms the nervous system and can become "imprinted" as a new habit of releasing stress at will. Gradually, this practice can lead to the prevention of future accumulation of tension in the muscles, fascia and the organ system.

About somatic ground rolling:

In somatic ground rolling our starting position in relaxation. We move from relaxing with gravity, into effortless rolling and spiraling on the ground, to discover the paths of least resistance and tap into the original design of spirals in the body. Movement and meditation merge into one practice of heightened proprioceptive and interoceptive awareness, gradually taking us to a place of no guidance or instruction, where the non-voluntary, spontaneous expression can emerge.

During the seminar you will learn

- The basics of the central-peripheral, somatic-autonomic nervous system divisions, to distinguish the motor and sensory properties of the nervous system, as well as the sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric branches of the autonomous nervous system. You will learn how to recognise and embody states, transitions and associated pathways. You will experience the flow between the sympathetic and parasympathetic limbs of the autonomic nervous system, and you will learn to stimulate the parasympathetic vagus nerve. Embodied understanding of the workings of our nervous system improves the way we respond to the demands of the environment.
- Restorative sequences that address anxiety, insomnia, chronic fatigue, difficulty in breathing, and shoulder and back pain. You will be given notes with pictures of poses and all the props required.
- Short restorative sequences that can fit into your daily routine
- Chair Yoga sequence
- Somatic/interoceptive rolling on the ground - sequences that release tension from the muscles and organs.

Teachers will additionally benefit from learning:

- Restorative postures that can be inserted in the beginning or at the end of any regular yoga class
- Variations of poses to accommodate different students' needs
- The appropriate sequences for a complete restorative yoga session, with pictures of poses and props
- Chair yoga sequence
- Creation of atmosphere, structure of the class, duration of stay in poses, transition elements, timing, guidance
- Sequences for easier somatic rolling on the ground
- Sensit Yoga Methodology
- Meditation techniques, some common resistances and myths about meditation, and how to help yourself and your students acquire a consistent meditation practice at home.

Yoga for Scoliosis Part 1 and Part 2 Workshop

with Elise Browning Miller

January 2020

Elise Miller presents her internationally acclaimed workshop on working with scoliosis. This 20 hour workshop is designed to present information and experience in the ways that Iyengar Yoga can be used to meet the challenges of scoliosis. We will include an anatomical background on scoliosis, identify each participant’s scoliosis, and discuss cause and effect as well as psychological consequences of scoliosis.

Participants will learn optimal yoga postures for scoliosis as well as how to adapt specific yoga postures to their scoliosis. By combining the yoga postures with breathing awareness, one can develop more structural alignment of the body and become more symmetrical and balanced. Through yoga, one can find the balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to coexist with gravity and activates the body’s natural plumb line. The workshop will progress from beginning to more intermediate poses.

Students of all levels are welcome to attend. Teachers with or without scoliosis, and of all levels and systems are welcome and are invited to bring their continuing students with scoliosis so that both will have the opportunity to work together under Elise’s guidance.

PART 1: Participants will learn to work with their particular scoliosis with a variety of yoga poses including standing poses, back strengtheners, twists, and approaches to inversions. The workshop is intended for teachers with or without scoliosis and students with scoliosis, including all levels of skill and experience.

PART 2: Builds on the foundation of Part 1 and is intended as a continuation of Part 1 or for people who already have a strong foundations of yoga (a minimum of 6 months or yoga teachers). It includes work in more intermediate poses and back strengtheners in backbends, inversions, twists and forward bends.

Why Yoga for Scoliosis?

Yoga, meaning yoke or union, is an ancient physical mental and spiritual practice with its roots going back 5,000 years to India. The practice of hatha yoga which includes the physical postures, breathing techniques and relaxation has many physical benefits such as improved posture and increased flexibility and strength.

The body with scoliosis has developed a highly sophisticated compensating ‘act’ and it can also learn a more refined symmetrical ‘act’ with proper instruction. By combining the yoga postures with breathing awareness, one can develop a structural alignment, creating a more normal symmetrical alignment. This is accomplished by stretching muscles that have tightened and strengthening muscles that have become weak from this asymmetrical imbalance. Thereby the body will create a more effortless posture using the bone structure, rather than over working the muscles to hold itself up. Through yoga, one can find that balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to coexist with gravity and activates the body’s natural plumb line. The result for most people with scoliosis is better posture and less pain.

Choosing to do yoga for scoliosis requires commitment and inner awareness. With scoliosis, it is important to not expect perfection but instead accept oneself, and find ones own optimal alignment and center. As there is beauty in the straight alignment of a palm tree, there is also beauty of an oak tree with it’s many twists and turns. Psychologically, doing yoga is very empowering. It gives hope that we can do something to improve our condition and our quality of living.

“I am always happy with the smallest improvement. I do not try to reach ultimate perfection but only the little perfection of every day.” Sparks of Divinity, BKS Iyengar

Testimonials

For years, my stepdaughter had been after me to go to Elise for my back. She said Elise was the best yoga teacher for maintaining and strengthening your back. And she lived right here in Palo Alto. Even my Spine Surgeon said ‘Yoga” for long term maintenance of the back. Finally in 2010 after recovering from a fall in my kitchen in which I yanked it pretty badly, I decided to go… to try to gain control. It has worked! I do the stretches prescribed by Elise for my particular scoliosis everyday. Within 2 months I was pain free. It is now one and a half years later and myback is stronger, more flexible and pain free. I still try not to sit too much, and I keep active by walking, swimming, biking and stretching. Elise’s coaching and tailoring of the exercise routine to my back curvature deserves the credit. Thank you Elise! - Lois McCluskey

I was looking for an alternative approach to surgery that had been recommended by two out of three top orthopedic surgeons in NYC for my daughter. I found an amazing yoga instructor who met with her once a week for about an hour to an hour and a half. My daughter was very good about doing the routine that they worked out about four to five times a week. She was just x-rayed last week and now she would not be considered a candidate for surgery. I would like to thank you for your encouragement to pursue this avenue of treatment! Blossom F.

I have scoliosis and, after reading your article last May, decided I would try yoga. I cannot even explain how it has helped me. I, along with my family, see a miraculous difference. My rib cage is not so protruding as it was and my posture has so improved. I am so happy with Yoga, and practice at home and also at a studio. It has changed my life physically and spiritually. I refer to my Mat as my magic carpet. It has become to me now a way of life. -Pat L.

For most of my life, I believed that yoga was not for me because I have scoliosis. Each time I attended a class in which students were instructed to move one vertebra at a time or to align the spine, I felt excluded and somehow defective. I have an S-curve 0f 35 degrees at the top and bottom of my spine. Thank you for opening new doors of possibility for me.- Susan G.

Body-Mind Centering® | Embodied Anatomy of Skeletal, Organ, and Fascia systems

Gerlind O. Schweppe will take us on an experiential journey into anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and developmental principles. The embodied exploration leads us to greater awareness in yoga and other movement modalities, as it deepens our understanding of how the mind is expressed through the body, and the body through the mind.

We will learn how each body system - skeletal, organ, and fascia – is being integrated in the patterning of our movement, mind and spirit.

Friday | The Skeletal System

The skeletal system provides us with our basic supporting structure. It is composed of the bones and the joints. It gives our body the basic form through which we locomote through space and act in the environment. The bones support our weight in relationship to gravity. Through embodying the skeletal system, the mind becomes structurally organized, providing the supporting ground for our thoughts and the leverage for our ideas. It provides the foundation for the psychophysical qualities of clarity, effortlessness and form.

This day will include:
- Qualitiy and layers of the bones and joints
- Skeletal principles that enhance effortless movement
- The relationships between the bones and the joints throughout the whole body

Saturday | The Organ System

Organs are the contents within the skeletal container and carry out the functions of our internal survival with breathing, nourishment and elimination. Organs provide us with vitality and aliveness. They give us our sense of self, full-bodiedness and organic authenticity. Organs are the natural environment of our emotions, aspirations, and the memories of our inner reactions to our personal history. They support our postural tone, feelings, and movement.

This day will include:
- Getting in touch with our own organs
- Initiating breath, voice, movement and touch from the organs
- Movement from the organs
- Techniques that facilitate access to the organs and enable us to arrive at a state of balance in the organs

Sunday | The Fascial System

Fascial connective tissue establishes a soft container for all other structures of the body. It both divides, protects and integrates all other tissue and it provides them with semi-viscous lubricating surfaces. With its innumerable sensory nerve endings, fascia can be considered the main organ of our proprioception, which is often called our real sixth sense. Through the fascial system we connect our inner feelings to our outer expression. Latest research gives ever more emphasis on the dynamic and communicative character of this mysterious tissue.

This day will include:
- Initiating movement from the fascia
- Facilitating freedom, resilience, strength and integration of the fascia through touch and repatterning
Embodied Yoga & Fascia with Gerlind O. Schweppe | Body Mind Centering

Gerlind O. Schweppe is a movement therapist, physical therapist, Body-Mind Centering® teacher, dancer and choreographer, performing and teaching worldwide since 1989.

For the first time in Athens, Gerlind will guide us through two sessions of embodied yoga with emphasis on the fascia.

Fascia is an all-encompassing connective tissue that supports and protects the organs, muscles, skin and the entire system as a whole. Latest research gives ever more emphasis on the dynamic and communicative character of this mysterious tissue.

With its innumerable sensory nerve endings, fascia can be considered the main organ of our proprioception, which is often called our "real sixth sense.

Gerlind will take us on a journey of awareness of our fascia through touch and refined movement. The practice of feeling what our fascia needs to be healthy and vital contributes enormously to a pain-free daily living. Moreover, the practice of interoception has a profound effect on deepening our meditation experience.

Absolute Beginners: Τeaching yoga to beginner students

Absolute Beginners: The Teaching of Beginner Students

11-13 May 2018

In all my training programs, I seek to help teachers create an internal environment of awareness and support for themselves. The techniques of deepening awareness of the various key points of our body, the conscious use of voice and our relationship with gravity, the exploration of the quality of the space, the perception of the group's energy, and many others practices bring us to a state of effortless and spontaneous connection with our students, without "losing" ourselves in the process. The practice of teaching becomes in fact a practice of deep awareness, that is, a practice of yoga itself.

Themes covered:

- Developing sensitivity and awareness as a priority, both in practice and in teaching. Techniques that make it easier for teachers to be inside their bodies while teaching, and to avoid exhaustion and depletion of energy.

- Self-practice for yoga teachers. From discipline to joy of coming home to yourself. How to make your daily practice unique, enjoyable, therapeutic, tailored to the needs of your body in the given stage of your menstual cycle, therapeutic, but also a source of inspiration and insight.

- The liberation and revitalization of the spine through becoming conscious of its natural rhythms and energetic waves.

- Increasing the benefits of movement by reducing tension and effort: Exploring our relationship with gravity, space and the use of the internal interconnections in our body that free up the movement and bring about joy and clarity.

- The techniques of tension release in diaphragms and vital organs

- The Importance of the variety of movement: Functional movement, strength and stabilization exercises for optimal mobility and for avoiding of common injuries

- The common needs of beginner students and the appropriate asana sequencing

- Manual adjustments: Use of touch to direct students' attention to the various parts of their body.

- Asana: When does alignment matter? Alignment, modifications and progressive sequencing.

- Therapeutic exercises (inspired by physiotherapists Pete Egoscue, Judith Lasater and Julie Gudmestad)

- Breathing: The vertical and horizontal approach. The basic awareness of breathing as an essential stage of all pranayama techniques

- Stages of basic pranayama techniques suitable for beginner students.

- Voice, rate, and timing based on categories of asanas

- Introducing yoga philosophy in your classes in an understandable, down-to-earth, yet meaningful way

Carlos Pomeda | Yoga Wisdom for Modern Life ®

3-day Workshop with Carlos Pomeda

Yoga Wisdom for Modern Life ®

A. Yoga methodology through the ages

B. Hatha yoga and related traditions

C. Vijnana Bhairava

As a teacher, Carlos is known for his love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humour, his profound empathy with his audiences and his ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable. Studying with Carlos is an enjoyable and enlightening experience.

These seminars are of interest to:
• Hatha Yoga teachers and practitioners looking for a deeper
understanding of the roots of the tradition and its multiple facets
• Meditators and spiritual seekers interested in deepening their
understanding of the ancient teachings and practices
• Students interested in this fascinating tradition
• Anyone interested in the philosophy, culture and spirituality of India

Yoga methodology through the ages - 05.05.17 Friday 9:00-12:00

In this workshop, Carlos Pomeda will lead us through an exploration of the many forms of yoga that have developed throughout history, drawing gems of inspiration and practice that we can immediately apply to our lives. One fruit of the workshop will be a thorough understanding of the differences and peculiarities of the various forms of yoga (Raja yoga, Karma yoga, Mantra yoga, Laya yoga, etc.), as well as the various contexts in which they arose. But this exploration, while well informed and rigorous, will be far from academic: participants will learn to draw elements from this ancient wisdom of yoga that can enrich their own lives.

Perhaps as important, this exploration will not be dry: There is a river of joy that runs through each current of yoga, and this joy is infectious! Take this opportunity to answer your questions about the vast tradition of yoga and its many fruitful practices.

Hatha Yoga and related traditions - 05.05.17 Friday 14:00-17:00

What is the origin of Hatha Yoga? What is the mysterious Kundalini? How can I experience it and how can it help my practice? What is unique about the human body? How can yoga help me to understand my body? Above all, how can these teachings help me to deepen my practice? These are some of the questions that we will be exploring at this upcoming seminar, the last on this series.

Building up on the knowledge of the Tantric traditions, the paths of kundalini yoga and hatha yoga present a radical approach in which the body is not an obstacle to spiritual life, but rather the very vehicle to enhance our consciousness and develop a sense of connectedness with our world and ourselves, at the deepest possible levels. This seminar will offer a fascinating tour of the hidden “anatomy” charted by the Tantric masters and will also present several powerful exercises to enhance our daily practice.

Vijnana Bhajrava - 06.05.17 Saturday 8:00-11:00 and 13:00-17:00 and 07.05.17 Sunday 9:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00

There is a treasure trove of meditation in the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, and one of its greatest sources is the revealed text known as Vijnana-bhairava Tantra. In it, the Goddess plays the role of student and asks Shiva for instruction. The reply, however, does not come in the form of doctrines, but in the form of 112 methods of meditation. The message is clear: the ultimate answer to the deepest questions of life lies within.

In this weekend course, we will immerse ourselves in the nectarean ocean of meditative practices selected from this sublime text. As we progress through the various forms of meditation, the inner state becomes deeper and deeper, supported by our contemplation, analysis and discussions. If you’ve ever felt like immersing yourself in meditation but felt perhaps too busy for a prolonged retreat, this course is for you! It is designed particularly to deepen our understanding and experience of meditation, to shift our internal state and anchor it firmly in internal, blissful awareness. It will be a true banquet for the soul.

Because of the structure and nature of this course, attendance to both days is required. Open to all levels of experience in meditation.

Carlos Pomeda

Originally from Madrid, Spain, Carlos has been steeped in all aspects of the yoga tradition during more than 40 years of practice and study. He spent 18 of those years as a monk of the Saraswati order, under the name Swami Gitananda, including 9 years of traditional training and practice in India.

During this time he learned the various systems of Indian Philosophy and immersed himself in the practice of yoga, becoming one of the senior monks of the tradition and teaching meditation and philosophy to tens of thousands of students around the world. He combines this experience and traditional training with his academic background, which includes two Masters Degrees: one in Sanskrit, from U.C. Berkeley (where he has taught) and another one, in Religious Studies, from U.C. Santa Barbara. He is currently working on a book on the topic of “Karma and the Journey of the Soul”, as well as a new translation of the Śivasūtra, an important Tantric text of the Kashmiri tradition.

Carlos currently lives in the US, and travels extensively around the world conducting a variety of retreats, courses, seminars, workshops and lectures on the Wisdom of Yoga and related subjects.

As a teacher, Carlos is renowned for the breadth of his knowledge and the clarity with which he conveys it. His great love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humor and his deep connection with his audiences give him the ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable. Studying with Carlos is an enjoyable and transformative experience.

Testimonials

“Here’s a man who can be trusted to cut through the usual window- dressing of yoga and give me the real goods... a heavyweight... without being heavy, he has a jaw-dropping range of knowledge.”
Richard Rosen, Senior Reviewer, Yoga Journal

“What impresses me as much as his clarity and depth of knowledge is his embodiment of the teachings. He teaches with a contagious humility and graciousness that encourages learning and draws you into your own process of discovery and love of the tradition.”

Bridging Yoga and Meditation with Michael Stone

October 21-23, 2016

Weekend workshop

Join Michael Stone for a weekend that integrates yoga and Buddhism, posture practice, philosophy and meditation.

"Michael is one of the rare teachers that can weave together yoga postures, deep philosophical inquiry and daily life, and also explore aspects of yoga that are rarely taught and rarely understood. True to tradition and very contemporary, he teaches a true transformation of mind, body and heart" --Richard Freeman

"The connection of mind and body has never been explored and explained better" --Sharon Gannon, cofounder, Jivamukti Yoga

Location: The morning sessions of Saturday and Sunday (10 am - 1 pm) will take place at Dance-up studio - Sofia Florou at Monastiraki, 1 Protogenous str. 5th floor. For all the other sessions we will be at the cozy yoga shala of Athens Yoga at Panormou.

Friday evening: Opening Talk
Friday, 7 pm – 9 pm

Genuine Peace: How Yoga & Meditation Really Work
People are drawn to the interior practices of mindfulness, largely because they find themselves vulnerable to overstimulation, exhaustion, and being overwhelmed. Meditation teaches us how to calm the mind and body, how to recognize when we are over-extended or burning out, and how to mitigate the tendency to worry and ruminate. Yoga & Meditation can also be tools that inspire to improve our families and communities.
Drawing on the insights of western psychology as well as his practice of Buddhist meditation, Michael will offer reflections and practices for making friends with your mind.

Weekend workshop
Saturday, 10 am – 1 pm & 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Sunday, 10 am – 1 pm & 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Morning Sessions
These sessions will explore the intersection of alignment based practice with the opening of the subtle body. We will blend detailed physical alignment with practices to help you calm the mind and transform distractions and difficult emotions.
We will integrate traditional maps from hatha and tantra yoga, with new insights from evidence-based movement, considering the ways in which yoga can develop both internally and also be practised with intelligent alignment.
Meditation will be included in this session.

Afternoon meditation and study
In the afternoons, you will learn to settle your mind, find space in your breathing, and stabilize your emotions. This will allow you to investigate your experience with more clarity and depth.
Michael will synthesize techniques from Vipassana, Zen and yoga lineages while also describing the existential and psychological aspects of meditation.

This workshop is like being in a yoga workshop, a university classroom, and a monastery. All at once!

Note: Please bring your own meditation cushion, bench or bolster for sitting meditation practice. In case you don't have and can't find or buy one please ask the staff to reserve on of the venue's cushions for you.

Michael Stone

Gong Barth – The Healing Sound

Gong Bath – The Healing Sound ''Tuning your body''

The Sound Healing with the planetary Sun Gong, an experiential journey of universal Harmony, completeness and coordination, that leads the participant at a state of consciousness of high therapeutic value. Planetary Gongs are tuned in a particular fundamental frequency of planets, based on the mathematical formulas of Hans Cousto, corresponding to the orbit of planets and other celestial bodies. The Sound and the frequencies of the Gong, grow in a spiral motion and are linked to the ‘Music of the Spheres’ of Pythagoras.

A Gong Bath is an expression of The Sacred Sound. A weaved construct of sound frequencies, harmonies and techniques. It is a powerful vibrational journey which positively affects emotional balance, cellular healing and spiritual awareness.Within every Gong Bath each participant is bathed with rhythms, tonalities and multi-tonal octaves that are naturally revitalizing, stress reducing and induce profound natural healing physically, mentally and spiritually.

The Healing Power of Sound lies on the fact that it helps us feel again the mutability of the world in which we live. It teaches us how to move gradually through the successive layers of motion that exist within music, but also within us, in even deeper levels, until we reach the point of immobility existing at the Centre of Sound and the center of ourselves. Once we reach the serenity of perfect balance, around which the patterns of vibration evolve, we will be able to experience the peace of the Divine Unity, by realizing it within us and within others.

The session starts and finish with the subtle sound of 7 Tibetan Bowls, each corresponding to one of the 7 chakras.

"I always find it difficult to express myself in words when it comes to describe my experience of participating in Maja's trainings and workshops. This training has been amazing and more than fulfilling in terms of knowledge and experience thanks to a wonderful teacher and a super supportive group of co-trainees. It' definitely been for me a big step towards feeling more confident and inspired both as a yoga teacher and practitioner. Looking forward for the next step in May!" Anna Petropoulou - October 2015

"A unique seminar for the teachers of yoga. An exceptional teacher Maja Zilih taught us how to lead our students to advanced poses with safety but also with lots of creativity. It was incredibly useful to me for preparing my classes, but also for sequencing my personal yoga practice! I am so excited that we will do it again, with more poses and transitions, with the view on the Aegean see, in summer 2016 on Paros." Georgia Georgoni - October 2015

"If you are a yoga teacher, you REALLY don't want to miss this!!! Maja Zilih is pure gold!" Wanda Pierri - October 2015

3-day Workshop with Carlos Pomeda
20-22 May 2016
Yoga Wisdom for Modern Life ®

As a teacher, Carlos is known for his love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humour, his profound empathy with his audiences and his ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable. Studying with Carlos is an enjoyable and enlightening experience.

Teachers will receive an 18 hour Yoga Alliance certificate of attendance.

Schedule

Friday 20/05 at 9:00-12:00 Yoga History Overview

Friday 20/05 at 14:00-17:00 & Saturday 21/05 at 08:30-11:30 Tantra-vata-dhanika: The Tree of Tantra

Saturday 21/05 at 13:30-16:30 & Sunday 22/05 at 9:00-12:00 & 14:00-17:00 The World in the Mind: The Tantric Yoga of the Tripura Rahasya

One of the wonderful challenges of yoga practice is how to integrate it with the rest of our lives—how do we make our entire life into a yoga practice, so we can grow in self-awareness and fulfilment? This 3-day workshop with Carlos Pomeda explores the inner dynamics of the journey and provides helpful, practical guidance to do just that.

Yoga History Overview (3 hours)

Friday 20 May, 9:00–12:00
Dive into the secret wisdom of the ancient yoga texts. This seminar will lead us through the tantalizing history of yoga, exploring its development and the subtleties we can learn and apply to our practice. Take this opportunity to answer your questions about the origin and development of yoga, its main schools and teachings, its approaches and the way they inform our current practice.

Tantra-vata-dhanika: The Tree of Tantra (6 hours)

Friday 20 May, 14:00–17:00
Saturday 21 May, 08:30–11:30
What better way to learn about Tantra than to receive it from the ancient masters? For that reason, this Introduction to Tantric Yoga is based on a little known work by the great 11th c. Tantric master, Abhinavagupta. Translated into English for the first time, his “Seed of the Tree of Tantra” (Tantravatadhanika) gives us the perfect platform to learn about Tantra and its practices in an authoritative, yet inspiring and practical way.

What is most unique about Tantra and tantric yoga philosophy? Quite simply, the fact that its teachings and practices are best suited for contemporary life. Departing from earlier notions of asceticism and dry scholarship, Tantra presents a sublimely inspiring view of the world and of human existence, one that incorporates all aspects of human existence: the heart, the intellect, the body and the environment.

The World in the Mind: The Tantric Yoga of the Tripura Rahasya (9 hours)

Saturday May 21, 13:30–16:30
Sunday May 22, 9:00–12:00 & 14:00–17:00

“The whole world is manifested in Consciousness, like a city in a mirror…That Consciousness is absolute… [But] as long as the mind is not turned inward, so long the Self cannot be realized.”

The essential teaching of all yoga is that a great treasure lies within every human being, but the key to finding it is the mind. Our mind contains not only the key to the ultimate experience of meditation, but indeed to our whole life—it is the very place where we experience every moment of our lives. Therefore, it is particularly important not only to understand it and how it shapes our experience of being alive, but specially, how to make it into an instrument of insight and fulfillment at all levels of our life.

This workshop will be based on a profound and insightful scripture of the yoga tradition, the Tripura Rahasya. This text forms a beautiful bridge between Advaita Vedanta and Tantra, which makes it tremendously relevant in contemporary life.

Most importantly, the Tripura Rahasya offers what is perhaps the deepest and most transformative method of meditation found anywhere. It is this method that will become the underpinning of the entire workshop, which will be taught in an interactive and approachable style.

These seminars combine a dynamic and insightful presentation of the material with the opportunity to experience directly some fo the most powerful practices of the yoga tradition, in a pleasant interactive format.
